Symbiodiniaceae and coral resilience
Basic and Frontier Science project CBF-2026-1572 (SECIHTI, 2026–2028), led by Dr. Manuel Alejandro Delgadillo Nuño (CICESE), with researchers from CICESE, CIBNOR, Universidad de Colima and UAM.
“Genetic and functional diversity of Symbiodiniaceae dinoflagellates as resilience bioindicators in coral communities of the Mexican Pacific: the Gulf of California as a key refuge under global change”
Symbiodiniaceae dinoflagellates live in symbiosis with corals and are an early indicator of how corals respond to environmental stress, yet their diversity in the Eastern Pacific is poorly known. The project characterizes free-living and symbiotic Symbiodiniaceae lineages at four localities in the Mexican Pacific and the Gulf of California using high-throughput sequencing of the ITS2 marker, and links them to climatology, physicochemical conditions and coral molecular responses.
I participate in the metabarcoding and bioinformatic analysis component.
